SPRINGFIELD – According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, one in five women in the U.S. have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime. In Illinois, sexual assault and rape survivors will soon see greater protections during case interviews to prevent re-traumatization thanks to a new law passed by State Senator Mary Edly-Allen.
“As a teacher, it is extremely important to me to come from a position of helping people learn and grow. The intent of this law is to focus attention on how law enforcement handles survivors of sexual assault,” said Edly-Allen (D-Libertyville). “While we have come a long way, there is still much work to be done to address this issue. And when we know better, we do better.”
LIBERTYVILLE — Following the success of last year’s Lake County Job Fair, State Senator Mary Edly-Allen is collaborating with State Representative Laura Faver Dias, the Round Lake Area Park District, Job Center of Lake County, Illinois Job Bank and the Illinois Department of Employment Security for another event this year at the Round Lake Area Park District Sports Center.
“This job fair is a wonderful educational and networking opportunity for local job seekers and employers,” said Edly-Allen (D-Libertyville). “With over 40 area employers from a variety of sectors, the fair offers a range of job options. One of the greatest ways to make connections is by networking with others, and I am proud to sponsor this event alongside Representative Faver Dias to expose the community to the many employment opportunities offered in our area.”
LIBERTYVILLE – Five public library districts will receive more than $312,000 through the Illinois Secretary of State’s public library grant program, thanks to strong support from State Senator Mary Edly-Allen.
“Libraries provide essential resources for our community members–which I know about firsthand from my experience in education,” said Edly-Allen (D-Libertyville). “That’s why I am excited to announce new grant funds coming to local libraries. These funds will allow people in our community to become great leaders and brilliant thinkers through access to high-tech tools, a wide variety of reading materials, and more.”
LIBERTYVILLE – To emphasize the importance of learning throughout the summer, State Senator Mary Edly-Allen is hosting a Summer Book Club to encourage students to read and continue their studies during the summer vacation.
“As an educator, I recognize how reading has the ability to inspire, educate and expand critical thinking skills,” said Edly-Allen (D-Libertyville). “Reading over the summer helps students continue building on these skills. This program is a fun and free way to encourage the love of reading while earning a small reward.”
