LIBERTYVILLE – In response to a recent report that a Libertyville teacher was placed on administrative leave, arrested and charged with eight counts of child pornography for allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) to create explicit images of Libertyville middle school students, State Senator Mary Edly-Allen (D-Grayslake) released the following statement:
“The decision to terminate this teacher sends a clear message that there is no place for those who exploit positions of trust to harm children.
“The allegations in this case are deeply disturbing, and my heart is with the students, families and everyone impacted. Every survivor deserves to know they will be heard, supported and treated with dignity as they seek justice.
“As artificial intelligence evolves at an unprecedented pace, our laws must evolve with it. We cannot allow new technology to create new opportunities for exploitation while leaving victims without protections or recourse.
“Illinois has taken important steps to address emerging harms caused by AI, but our work is far from over. We must continue strengthening safeguards, supporting law enforcement and ensuring victims have clear avenues to report abuse, access resources and secure justice.
“Innovation should never come at the expense of our children’s safety. I remain committed to advancing thoughtful policies that protect Illinois families while holding those who misuse AI accountable.”
