SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Mary Edly-Allen (D-Grayslake) released the following statement after the Governor’s budget address:

“This budget reflects our moral obligations and commitment to investing in people and preparing Illinois for the future. While the Trump Administration is pulling back federal funding and creating chaos to those who depend on federal programs such as food assistance, SNAP, Medicaid and other lifesaving programs, Illinois is stepping up and bridging the gap to combat the hardships created by this federal administration.

“As chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee, I am encouraged to see continued support for higher education as well as investments in pre-apprenticeship and manufacturing training programs that will strengthen our workforce and expand economic opportunity.

“At a time when our immigrant neighbors and friends are continuously discriminated against and attacked, I am glad that this budget continues to fund health benefits for immigrant seniors, ensuring our most vulnerable residents can access the care they need.

“I will continue working with my colleagues to advance a budget that is equitable, compassionate and builds a stronger future for all Illinois families regardless of race, ethnicity or sexual orientation. Illinois is a safe haven in prioritizing equity and inclusion and this budget reflects that.”
