GRAYSLAKE – Following the announcement the state filed a lawsuit against the federal administration’s Department of Homeland Security over the unlawful and dangerous tactics used by Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Illinois, State Senator Mary Edly-Allen (D-Grayslake) released the following statement:

“I commend Governor JB Pritzker and Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul for taking decisive and firm action to defend the people of Illinois and uphold the rule of law in the face of dangerous federal overreach by the Trump Administration.

“What we have seen unfold, both here in Illinois and across the country, is a deeply troubling pattern of excessive force, intimidation and a reckless disregard for constitutional rights that no community should ever be subjected to.

“The scenes in Minneapolis, where militarized responses escalated fear and trauma instead of protecting public safety, underscore exactly why unchecked enforcement tactics are so dangerous and why accountability is essential.

“No one should fear violence from those entrusted to enforce the law, and no administration is above the Constitution. This lawsuit is a necessary and courageous step to protect our residents, reaffirm our state’s sovereignty, and send a clear message: we will not tolerate abuses of power that terrorize communities, separate families or put innocent lives at risk.”
